lemongrass - dill & salad lettuce - sage
Outcome of our second work session: We transplanted sage, strawberry, goji berries and mint plants in the sheltered area behind the brick walls Eppie dug up last week. We sowed salad lettuce, tatsoy and dill in quick diy seed trays made out of egg and juice boxes, and Willowbank resident Da from Thailand taught us growing lemongrass - soak them in water for a couple of days and then just stick them into some soil. We grew also curious as how to grow other typical Thai cuisine herbs and spices - ginger, galangal, Thai basil… We are planning to get hold of a cycle lock to store tools, seeds etc. permantly in the garden.

REVIEW | 2nd site visit at the hidden.gardens 09.08.2012

A nice and sunny Thursday afternoon in the hidden.gardens, both mum's with kids and prams and families enjoying the summer day, sitting down on the grass, soaking up sunshine, drinking coffees, children trying themselves on badminton, other kids running along the small paths exploring the garden. A lovely chat with loely head gardener Jean Gavin, taking a great amount of her time and providing us with so many helpful information, advices and addresses. Thank so much, Jean!

REVIEW | 1st work session 04.08.2012

A warm and sunny day in the garden...

with a site clean up and the need for bins,
sowing tatsoy, spring onions, russian kale, beetroots and many more,
first contacts with residents,
learning, that the space is not a deserted, but used as a retreat and playground for kids, climbing the walls,
exchanging and developing lots of thoughts and ideas,
realising the urgence of regularly face-to-face meetings.

REMEMBER | the ikarian diet

Australian Sarah Wilson travels the Greek Island of Ikaria, a so called blue zone, together with the National Geographic team to find out about their traditional food habits. Different from what we have been told over the past twenty years.

beans + greens + olive oil + glass(es) of red wine

- clean, pure and whole food straight from the garden
- no messing around with food, e.g. skim milk or preservatives
- slow cooked
- healthy amounts of dairy, notably goat's milk
- (pork) meat as a sideshell, of a marginal size
- tiny amounts of added, obvious sugars - no hidden sugars
- large quantities of pure organic wine red wine (sulphite-free!) to be consumed with meals to increase absorption of nutrients - a social activity
- smaller calorie intake
